Moksha pays tribute to the legendary Suchitra Mitra

27th February saw London come together and pay homage to the late Suchitra Mitra at Hampstead Town Hall. It was in 1975 that she first performed in the same venue alongside Hemanta Mukhopadhyay. Amongst the many who came to pay tribute were vocalists Paramita Bandyopadhyay, Sahana Bajpaie and direct disciple Susmita Bhattacharya. The second half of the programme was a special composite piece in collaboration with Sangeet Kala Academy- Tobu Mone Rekho featuring Rishi Banerjee, Chiranjib Chakraborty and saxophone sensation Jesse Bannister. In light of Suchitra Mitra’s experimental piece with Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, the trio brought Rabindranath together with Hindustani classical music with a jazz edge.
