MOKSHA Charity Show- Building Bridges, Harrow Arts Centre
Moksha’s charity show raising money for Teenage Cancer Trust was performed to a very high standard. The first half was a classical recital on Sarod by Soumik Datta who was accompanied by his brother Souvid Datta. The second half was opened by a dance piece composed to a piece from Rhythmscapes by Bikram Ghosh. Moksha’s first show was a great success at the Robert Powell Theatre in Salford University. The evening which had a near sell out crowd began with a solo recital from Rishi Banerjee who presented a mixture of Bengali songs from Rabindrasangeet, Atulprasad and Dwijendralalgeeti. Afterwhich invited arts group ARTS BENGAL performed two short pieces- a translation of Tagore’s ‘Karna Kunti Sangbad’ and a Shruti Natak (dialogue) called ‘Classfriend’. Moksha were invited by Panchamukhee Durga Utsav 2007 at the Harrow Arts Centre. Under the presence of the Mayor Moksha performed an innovative production based on two contrasting types of Folk Music that Tagore was fascinated by- Western Folk Music (Scottish and Irish Folk melodies) and Bengali Folk Music (Kirtan, Baul and Shari Gaan).
